Wilsonville, OR - MARY STARRETT for Governor Campaign applauds League Of Women Voters of the Rogue Valley and League of Women Voters of the Willamette Valley for standing up for Choice!

MARY STARRETT, Constitution Party candidate for Oregon governor, commends the League’s separate decisions to drop their sponsorship of scheduled televised debates because voters would be not allowed to hear about ALL their choices in the governor race.

Starrett said, “These groups stood their ground. In removing themselves as sponsors of the TV debates on KOBI TV in Medford and KATU TV in Portland, they have remained true to the voters.”

According to the Mail Tribune:

“The League of Women Voters of the Rogue Valley has withdrawn its sponsorship of a planned gubernatorial debate because the two main candidates refused to allow challengers from minor parties to participate.”

MARY STARRETT for Governor Campaign Manager Bob Ekstrom said, “The League of Women Voters has traditionally been a champion of an informed electorate. Both the Rogue and Willamette Valley groups have refused to sanction censorship.  That says a lot for their commitment to voters’ choice.

MARY STARRETT for Governor Campaign Communications Director Suzanne Brownlow called on all sponsors and hosts of scheduled and future debates to join the League of Women Voters in condemning the refusal of GOP contender Ron Saxton and Democrat Ted Kulongoski to engage in open and fair debates during the campaign. Brownlow said,  “Saxton, Kulongoski and the media debate hosts are limiting political discourse, plain and simple. It ought to outrage the public!”
