You did say civil unions were OK didn't you, Mr. Clark?

One brief section is attorney Gray speaking

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work [be] pure, and whether [it be] right. -- Proverbs 20:11

"The opinion that human reason left without the constant control of Divine laws and commands will...give duration to a popular government is as chimerical [unlikely] as the most extravagant ideas that enter the head of a maniac....Where will you find any code of laws among civilized men in which the commands and prohibitions are not founded on Christian principles? I need not specify the prohibition of murder, robbery, theft, [and] trespass." -- Noah Webster

Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth, that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? -- Job 20:4

The law...dictated by God Himself is, of course, superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe, in all countries, and at all times. No human laws are of any validity if contrary to this." --William Blackstone, 1765, Blackstone's "Commentaries." Part II (Section-A)
News and commentary

The Oregon Family Council (OFC)
Strange Bedfellows and Treasonous Alliances.

The Oregon Family Council -- (OFC)   "Founders of the Defense of Marriage Coalition and Publishers of the Christian Voter's Guide"  (Self-described) (Founder Tim Nashif to the right).

If it is confusing how the Oregon Right to Life (ORTL) seems to support both sides of an issue, one can expect to be even further confused by the behavior of their good friends in the Oregon Family Council (OFC) particularly by its leader Tim Nashif.

Neither OFC nor ORTL candidate endorsements always match their claimed agenda. Voter guide information excludes discrepancies between a candidate's actions and the OFC endorsement.

Their voter guides have endorsed Senator Gordon Smith despite his pro-same-sex, pro-abortion voting record. (More about Senator Smith and the OFC in Part II-B.) Even odder was Tim Nashif's choice of Kelly Clark for OFC legal representation.

Nashif recruited Kelly Clark in spite of his aggressive support of gay-civil rights as a legislator. Clark is still an outspoken supporter of the pro-homosexual organization, "The Log Cabin Republicans," and continues to advance their lobby within the Oregon Republican Party (ORP). Both men have been quoted as supporting civil unions as an alternative to same-sex marriages.

NASHIF'S LEGAL TROJAN HORSE:   LOOP HOLES!

In the Measure 36 campaign to pass the "One-man, one-woman" initiative Clark enabled a legal win for the OFC while retaining loopholes that could be used by pro-homosexual political groups. Same-sex marriages were temporarily ended but legal parsing of words left the door open for endless game playing over civil union legislation.

NASHIF PICKS A "TROJAN HORSE ATTORNEY"

While the media have been predominantly kind to Clark (by non-reporting), it was a liberal-leaning news publication which printed one rare story about
Kelly Clark's "strange bedfellows" Liberal and pro-homosexual web sites took notice of ironies in the Willamette Week (WW) story. "Odd," they mused, that a convicted rapist would now be suing the Catholic Church over child molestations.

Some thought Clark was a turncoat by working for Nashif. If they paid more attention to the minutia of Clarks' legal arguments they'd see Clark in a different light. Clark has hinted to far left critics that they needn't worry so much about what he doing for the OFC. He knows what he is talking about. (See hints
Nashiff-6 and Nashiff-7)

Does Nashif understand this also?

GET WITH THE 'SET-UP,' MR. CLARK.

Senator Kate Brown questioning Kelly Clark on his memory regarding his comments on whether or not Measure 36 would preclude civil unions. --
(Come come Mr. Clark, you knooooow what you said).
The advantageous results of parsed legal terminology, especially with regard to the distinctions between "same-sex marriage" and "civil unions," became evident during
Clarks testimony (audio) before the Senate Rules Committee hearing on SB1000 on May 4th, 2005. His testimony was given along with former representative, turned OFC lobbyist, Tootie Smith's and OFC attorney Herb Gray's.

Actually, Clark's testimony was not on the behalf of the OFC; it requested by Senator Kate Brown and was reminiscent of President Clinton's testimony when Clinton equivocated over the meaning of the word "is." It was a squirmy testimony with his old friend Senator Brown. However, Clark's equivocation over the description of, or what legally constitutes, a 'civil union' is valid.

The "set-up" has been that a "civil union" is supposed to be an alternative to marriage and not the same thing. Even the President of the United States has said that while he is against same-sex marriage he is open to "civil unions." What, supposedly, is the understanding here? What IS the mutual understanding of a civil union? Is there a "mutual" understanding at all? What does the President mean when HE uses it?

Senator Ringo asking if he "recalls correctly" what Clark and others at the OFC said regarding civil unions being an alternative to same-sex marriage.
(Es tu Brutus? Remember whose side you're supposed to be on here Mr. Clark. Don't let us down Pal.)
Catch 22:   For Kate Brown and the writers of
SB1000 a civil union means same-sex partners are to be legally treated no differently than anyone who is married. Pages 29 and 30 say terms "spouse," "husband," "wife," and "marriage," are to refer to same sex couples. Thus husband and husband, wife and wife, etc. The dictionary definition of these words is hereby changed forever. Daniel Webster is overruled along with six thousand years of Biblical history.

The set up is national. Clark is fighting in a state by state legal free-for-all to determine what the legal definition of a civil union will be and he's Pastor Nashif's chosen attorney. And all these:   Pastor Nashif, his attorney, Senator Gordon Smith (Include President Bush) have set the tone that "civil unions" are a safe, trustworthy alternative to same-sex marriage.

Senator Ben Shields asking Clark to parse legalities. (Heck, do we really need marriage ceremonies anyway Mr. Clark? Hmmmmmm? Shields was a pastor of a Methodist church for 30 years.)
Unless the average Joe Citizen takes the time to read the fine print of such civil union bills, he will never know what hit him until after the law is passed. He'll only know what special interest groups say the bill said. God help Joe Citizen if he is depending upon consistent information from the OFC.

At the civil unions bill hearing, Senator Brown, and other Rules Committee senators, set out to remind Clark; hadn't he said civil unions were OK? Hadn't others in the OFC organization? Clark appeared stumped. Was this arranged? It looked odd. Clark only dared speak for himself. Nashif wasn't there to answer for himself.

The legal set-up behind the civil unions terminology will prove far more advantageous to the far left than to anyone on the right. It will be extremely time consuming, energy sapping and expensive going through the legal process of haggling over such terminology-minutia. The homosexual lobby has the patience, money and cooperation of many Trojan horses like Tim Nashif and Clark.

People on both the left and right are poised to make money from concerned citizens. One vehicle for Clark's helping the same-sex establishment within in the Oregon Republican Party (ORP) has been the annual Oregon Republican Leadership Institute
(ORLI) an organization founded by Clark.

Some Christian conservatives have been aware of how liberal and unRepublican ORLI conference activities often are. But, they encountered disbelief that any Republican group could be so bad. Finally, one woman decided she'd had enough of being disbelieved and decided to prove it.

Amy Rabon wasn't able to tape record as much as she intended, but she got enough to reveal exactly where OFC attorney Kelly Clark is coming from politically and personally and it left no questions as to how far to the left some activities at the conferences are.

Recorded (audio) was Clark’s affectionate introduction of past Log Cabin Republican president Jerry Keene. Clark told a receptive audience that Oregon would be better off if Keene was a legislator regardless of disagreeing with Keene on Measure 36.

Keene returned the long-held affection and said how wrong it was for Christians to think anything he and his partner did was immoral. He related how ridiculous it was that anyone would think it would hurt children for two homosexual men to adopt children. He expressed his confidence that the GOP would help same-sexers gain their civil right to marry.

Clark wasn't happy to learn of Rabon's taping the conference. Some complaints to Clark followed and he wrote Rabon a
letter. It didn't intimidate her. Copies of it have continued to be passed around. Only upon hearing it have some people believed what really goes on at ORLI under Clark's leadership.

Adding to her proof was the ORLI conference manual which features all the speakers and their biographies. There were several same-sex speakers and advocates including the Democrat and bi-sexual Senator Kate Brown. What kind of leadership advice does Clark think Republicans need?

Both the ORTL and OFC contribute speakers to ORLI conferences. ORLI is the Bob Packwood, far left, vision of the GOP "big tent." The ORTL can't be too upset by Clark's point of view since he is on retainer as their attorney as well.

THE UNACCOUNTABLE NASHIF

Nashif shies away from being photographed. The media usually cooperate. They've been as helpful to Nashif as they have been to Clark and Senator Smith. Staying hidden in the background can protect a person from suffering the deserved public scrutiny that should come with being a primary influence-peddler.

Nashif has never had to answer such questions as:   What message is being sent when people hear that the OFC attorney supports civil unions? What does it say that Nashif hawks an attorney who as a legislator forcefully pushed for gay-rights? Nashif's response to Clark's legislative record was explained away with, "Of course we'd rather he hadn't done it, but then again, we know Kelly. He's an independent guy."

What message is being sent by Nashif when pro-abortion and pro-homosexual candidates, like Senator Smith, are endorsed by the OFC?

Why haven't any of the Churches working with Nashif demanded an explanation and held him accountable? Is it because they want to avoid the public embarrassment of everyone's knowing they have been supporting someone who snookered them? How many of them honestly still don't know they've been snookered?

But, Log Cabin Republican leader Jerry Keene approves of Nashif. The Statesman Journal reported, "Republicans wanted a pragmatist like Nashif in charge instead of some of the “wild-eyed radicals” who have been local-party leaders, said Jerry Keene, an openly gay Republican and precinct person in the Multnomah County GOP.

Kelly Clark is doing what he has always done. There are no surprises here nor any conspiracy on Clark's part. It is "Pastor" Nashif who should be accountable for the contradictions between what he claims to be and what he is doing.

What does it look like when Nashif's attorney doesn't even testify on the OFC's behalf before the Senate, but instead is there at the request of a key member of the opposing side? Another attorney was suddenly speaking for the OFC (and did a much better job).

But, using an attorney who predominantly agrees with the legal opposition isn't the strangest or worst of Nashif's actions requiring some explanation.

FIND A CHRISTIAN-CONSERVATIVE CAUSE, MAKE BIG BUCKS AND CONVINCE THOSE CANDIDATES THEY COULDN'T HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT YOU. Nashif has been working for a long time doing what he can to set up and knock down whom he will. Some of those set-ups have been years in the making. This is where his alliance with Senator Gordon Smith and future 2006 endorsement for the governor's race may now click in.

NOTE:   There is no love lost between the author of the following two articles, Paul deParrie, and some in the so-called Christian conservative organizations in Oregon. Objects of his criticism have labeled him "extreme", "vicious" and simply mean-spirited. DeParrie, like some others, has reached a point of no return when it comes to having any trust in the ORTL and OFC has not minced words about it. Some who are familiar with both deParrie and ORTL/OFC concede deParrie can be mean, but clarify that he has nevertheless not lied. They also feel that what deParrie said back in 2004 has turned out to be not so far off the mark regarding the OFC, Tim Nashif and the ORTL. Judge for yourself.
