RALLY AT THE CAPITOL ON JUNE 9 TO GREET PAUL REVERE

On Friday, June 9th, at 11:00 a.m., Oregonians for Immigration Reform and the Coos County Citizen Caucus will hold a rally on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol building.

Bring your American flags, protest signs, friends, and family. If you don’t have a sign we have a great assortment.

Some suggested signs:

Deport Senator Gordon Smith

Deport Senator Ron Wyden

End illegal immigration

S. 2611 NO HR 4437 Yes

Speakers:

Talk show hosts Victoria Taft and Richard Sturm

Congressional candidate, 4th District,  Jim Feldkamp

Oregon Legislators Jeff Kropf, Linda Flores and Kim Thatcher

A new Paul Revere will ride throughout the U.S. starting from Denver CO on May 29, arousing the public to the calamity that awaits this nation if illegal immigration is not stopped. His name is Frosty Wooldridge. His motorcycle brigade version of the famous Ride will arrive in Salem OR on June 9.

"Like those who served to bring this nation into being, today’s patriots must ride to warn the nation in the early years of the 21st century. In the summer of 2006, please welcome brave men and women on modern day iron steeds that ride through hamlets, towns, cities and states to warn citizens of the ongoing invasion of illegal aliens across America’s borders," the announcement says.

"These modern-day Paul Reveres carry instructions on ‘How to Stop the Illegal Alien Invasion’ and will visit all 48 states and capitols on their way to Washington, DC. They ride to warn you and your loved ones. Yes, they ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles instead of horses—but their message echoes Revere’s ride.

"For over 230 years, America’s soldiers did not die for open borders."

WE NEED TO SEND A MESSAGE TO CONGRESS.

S.2611, disastrous amnesty bill, passes Senate with help from Oregon’s Senators!

On May 25, Oregon’s Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith both voted in favor of  S.2611, the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006, which passed the Senate by a vote of 62-36.  Realistically this bill should be called the Illegal Alien Welcome and Welfare Act because it “leaves no illegal alien behind,” granting them amnesty and privileges not available to U.S. citizens.  Further, the bill vastly increases the volume of legal immigration to the point where our population is estimated to grow by some 66 million over the next 20 years over what it would be without this bill.  The bill’s proponents and defenders are making gross misrepresenta tions of what the bill will do to “secure our borders” and “comprehensively reform” immigration.  This deceptively written bill will open the borders of the U.S. to the world and push citizens down to the level of third world workers.

Here is what FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) advises that we do to stop this catastrophic bill.

“Not only do we believe it is extremely important for you to call and visit your Senators' offices to let them know you are aware of their vote, but we must also keep the pressure on the U.S. House. The House is the  big battleground and the White House is already digging entrenchments.

“As Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) recently admitted, ‘Ultimately, we all understand where this bill's going to be written. It's going to be written in the conference committee between the House and the Senate. . .’ The truth is the massive guest worker amnesty could get better in conference, but because the conference between the two chambers will take place behind closed doors, it is more likely that the massive guest worker amnesty will get worse. Is it possible? Sadly, yes.

“FAIR is asking you to call and visit your Representative's district offices to demand that the House does not appoint any conferees for the conference committee with the Senate.

“Simply tell your Congressman:

‘I am a voter in the Congressman's district and I am calling today to ask Congressman XX to demand that House Leadership REFUSE to appoint conferees to negotiate with the U.S. Senate on their massive guest worker amnesty. The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to that legislation. As elected officials who represent the people, please tell your leadership that no more time should be wasted on the guest worker amnesty bill S. 2611.’

“This statement will send a loud and clear message to Congress that the House should do the work of the American people. The American people want border security, but not at the price of giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. We can get our borders secure without a guest worker amnesty. Do not let anyone tell you differently. And, in case a staff person asks you, a ‘pathway to citizenship’ for those who are here illegally is amnesty--regardless of what people call it, it's an amnesty.

“Let's not give the Representatives a chance to be coerced or misled by the White House on this massive amnesty. Call your Representative and let them know you are watching. FAIR promises continued and renewed vigilance in letting you know more about this issue so vital to America's future. With informed FAIR members, we are betting the U.S. Congress will not ignore the public interest a second time.

“President Bush insulted the American people by advocating policies that undermine the American Dream. Why are we putting the ‘dreams’ of illegal aliens before the dreams of the American people? President Bush calls amnesty a ‘rational middle ground.’ Does that imply that enforcing our laws and protecting our borders is not rational?”

OFIR Members and Supporters, Please help these candidates win in November.  Vote for them and help them in their campaigns if possible.  We need legislators who understand the importance of immigration controls and enforcement, and who will not cater to illegal aliens by placing their interests above those of U.S. citizens.

OFIR in debate at Salem City Club

On Friday, May 26, OFIR President Jim Ludwick participated in a debate on immigration at the City Club in Salem.  Also appearing were Ramon Ramirez, president of PCUN (Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United), and an immigration lawyer, Mark Wilk.   An OFIR member in the audience wrote to Jim later:  “To say that your presentation was impressive would be a British understatement.  Your use of stats and facts had to be well received by this educated audience.  If it had been a boxing match you would have won by a knock-out.”  The debate was rather well-reported by the Statesman Journal on 5/27/06 in an article on p.1C of the L ocal section.  About 80 people attended the luncheon at the Red Lion Hotel on Market St NE.
