Jim Gilchrist, president of The Minuteman Project, will appear in Phoenix, Arizona September 8 to encourage the immediate exoneration and release of wrongly imprisoned members of law enforcement.

The fund raising event for the benefit of the families of the imprisoned peace officers is being jointly sponsored by syndicated radio talk show celebrity Roger Hedgecock of KOGO AM600 in San Diego, Ca. and the Phoenix chapter of a national motor cycle club, the American Freedom Riders.

For over a year now, Jim has joined other individuals and organizations across the country to bring national awareness to the plight of imprisoned U.S. Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, and Texas Deputy Sheriff Guillermo Hernandez. The trio, known as the “Texas Three” by their supporters, have been imprisoned for simply doing their jobs enforcing U.S. laws.

According to Gilchrist, “The U.S. government has an agenda here, and that agenda is to permanently cripple the ability of law enforcement to enforce ‘any’ laws regarding immigration. As a consequence, we continue to see good, decent members of law enforcement thrown into prison. This is a means by which an out-of-control federal government intimidates law enforcement organizations into ignoring all immigration laws. It is the ultimate insult to law enforcement organizations nationwide, and it is sickening.”

“The circumstances around which these men were charged and convicted are shadowy at best,” says Gilchrist, an adamantly harsh critic of President Bush’s lax attitude toward immigration law enforcement.

“My conclusion is that the federal prosecutors involved in the indictment and prosecution of the three officers are operating on a prescribed agenda mandated by the highest levels of federal government that will force every member of law enforcement to cut and run when faced with the challenge of enforcing U.S. immigration laws, whether it be on the international borders or in the inner cities of the United States,” Gilchrist added.

“After all, the prosecutors and judge in these cases are appointees of President Bush and it appears that they answer to the man in the White House, not to a conscience or the rules of law that have kept this nation civilized for over 200 years.”
