Letter to the Editor:

We are pleased if our Governor candidate Mary Starrett remains on the ballot.  Yet the pronouncement by Bill Bradbury's office that Mary remains even if errors are found in our nomination procedures adds to the cloud over our campaign - this time from the Democrat side.  Such is the predicament of the small fish caught in the middle of a fight between two big ones.

The public is in danger of being misinformed.  Kelly Clark's challenge to the Mary Starrett nomination is just that, a challenge. Anyone can challenge anything.  Clark's accusations need to be validated or invalidated.  Mr. Bradbury's comments imply that the facts don't really matter.  We disagree.  It is important to the Constitution Party that our candidate is viewed by the public as being legitimately on the ballot - not there because of a favor.

We have a nominating process that is spelled out in our bylaws.  That process has been approved by Secretary of State's office two years ago.  We supplied documentation to the state office on August 28 showing that we have complied with all requirements including public notice.  We believe Kelly Clark knew that our need to supply public notice occurred during the county level delegate selection rather than at the assembly of delegates in which candidates are nominated.  Instead, he purposely casted a cloud of doubt over a legitimate candidate and that was no doubt his real intent.

We trust that Secretary of State will review the facts expeditiously and make a clear ruling.  Mary Starrett has much
to say during this campaign that is important to the Oregon citizenry.  When she is fairly heard it will be seen that
she is as much a challenge to Mr. Kulongoski as to Mr. Saxton.  She is not only an ardent pro-life candidate.  She
is also an advocate of trade policies that favor american workers and also favors the immediate return of Oregon National Guard troops from Iraq.  Mary Starrett is not in this race to be a Saxton spoiler.  If anything, she is an equal opportunity spoiler who is in it to win.
