"A moderate by definition is one of three things; somebody who sits around and waits for a majority to form and then joins it, a conservative who is pro-choice, or a liberal."

- Wyden, DeFazio Resume Push for Gov't Funding to Make Up for Environmental-Whacko Killing of Timber Industry. (News Review) [These two legislators have done everything to kill the timber industry and then they have the gall to act like heroes bringing home pork to keep formerly employed timber workers on permanent welfare. If Wyden, DeFazio REALLY gave a hoot about the timber workers they wouldn't be fighting to kill all old growth logging. Sickening.]

WHO said this land needed "protection" and why? -- See info in news headline.]
- Wyden Web Site Boasts Introduction Of Legislation Protecting Rogue River, OR Caves Monument. Companion legislation introduced in House by DeFazio, Hooley, Blumenauer and Wu. Wyden cites the American Rivers as the valid source of information claiming the Rogue River and its tributaries as the second most endangered river in the U.S. [The American Rivers is a far-left, one-world oriented organization working to turn as much private property as possible to government land under the guise of environmental necessity. Taxpayers pay for their supposedly expert advice. It was created by Executive Order 13061 by Pres. Bill Clinton in 1997 & designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

- Senator Wyden Says Iran Sanctions Legislation Strikes the Right Balance. (VOA) [Smith uses bill to advertise his new anti-war status.] ...Smith... believes sanctions will be more effective in pressuring Iran than the threat of military action. [Duh] "I believe in diplomacy," said Smith. "I would rather withhold dollars and Euros than spend bullets and lives." The bill...would continue to allow food, medicine and other humanitarian assistance to be sent to Iran. [Continued mere bribery instead of tough policy? Is there any historical evidence that this method works, especially in a timely manner without costing Americans millions?]
- National Journal Blog Says Smith Strategy Common Among Republican Incumbents This Election Cycle.
This legislation takes the first step to designating the Rogue River as an American Heritage site which makes the river a "national" as opposed to state owned and run area. American Heritage sites are increasingly being designated as "World Heritage Sites" (UNESCO) in collusion with our liberal legislators and the UN. The UN oversees 20 U.S. National Parks including Yellowstone National Park, the Statue of Liberty and Independence Hall. The park has a United Nations plaque for visitors to see. The Convention stipulates the obligation of States Parties to report regularly to the World Heritage Committee on the state of conservation of their World Heritage properties.
Wyden also praised his Oregon colleagues in the House for today introducing companion legislation to S. 647, the Wyden-Smith legislation creating 128,000 additional acres of wilderness around Mt. Hood. These are not good bills]

Smith described how, in order to keep the best and brightest Americans working in the public sector, equal health benefits should be afforded to all. Also, Smith discussed his theory that a key to reducing health care costs is to widen the pool of those eligible, even if the “paradigms of families get shifted”. [And this means!?]
- Oregon's VC of Democratic Party Says Gordon Smith Owes Explanation of Polygamy Remarks to Him & His Partner. (Politicker OR) [Posturing. Pure posturing. Most likely Mr. Frank could care less if polygamy was legal. The truth? Everyone knows that legitimizing same-sex marriage will also legitimize polygamy.]
- Merkley Notes Another Smith Remark. "Merkley's campaign spokesman, Matt Canter, noted that Smith began last week's remarks by saying, "My campaign people will kill me for saying this, but ..." -- "What was he trying to say that his campaign people would kill him for?" Canter said. "Voters are going to have to make their own determination about what Sen. Smith really thinks. He is saying different things to different audiences."(Brad Cain, Oregonian) [Newsflash: Smith's "campaign people" were in on it. It was no accident. It was the usually Smith calculations as to how to throw crumbs to both sides and, once again, sound like the "convicted maverick." It's the same melodramatic rot-gut.]

With the July 3 deadline less than three weeks away, initiative supporters concede they will not have time to collect the 82,769 signatures they need for each initiative...Rep. Sal Esquivel, R-Medford, a chief petitioner for the initiative to repeal the domestic partnership law, said he was discouraged by the Oregon Supreme Court's lack of action. "We are not authorized to pick up one signature yet," he said. "Something is not quite right with that." (Bill Graves, Oregonian)
