- Former Log Cabin Republican President Headed for Colorado for Sexual Assault On a Minor. (KPTV-Fox)
-
Oregonian's Harry Esteve, Jeff Mapes Think "The GOP Dust Starting to Settle." [The exact opposite is true. A war, within the GOP, begun in 1964 by liberal Republicans, is only just netting long overdue rebellion in conservative ranks. No dust is settling. It is only just beginning to be kicked up.]
"McCain has an opportunity to wrap up the nomination in the next few weeks if he can smooth over the party's deep divisions and persuade conservatives to accept him..."
[REAL conservatives will NOT accept McCain. Just as they did in 1996, after Bob Dole announced he had never read the party platform, had no intention of reading it and didn't care what it said, they will, at the very least, refrain from voting at all.
However, for the first time in political history there may be some conservatives who will vote for the Democrat candidate just as liberal, Packwood-type Republicans, did in 1964 electing by a landslide socialist Lyndon B. Johnson. Liberal Republicans would rather elect socialists than to support a conservative pro-life Republican.
Ron Saxton donated to Kulongoski when pro-life Kevin Mannix ran for governor. When Saxton ran four years later he had the gall to expect Oregon conservatives to support him. Conservatives who knew the real intentions of Saxton to change the character of the OR GOP knew better than to vote for him. Saxton's, like Schwarzenegger's in California, number one priority was to kill off the truly conservative factions of the party.
In CA, true Reagan conservative, Tom McClintock was headed to be the next GOP governor. The GOP party RINOs went spastic even though Gallop polls showed that ANY Republican would have beat Bustamonte. So-called national conservatives publicly drooled over Schwarzenegger as if HE was the savior of the CA GOP. Only RINOs thought he was.
The dirty little secret, of RINOs, is that they have always existed for the solitary purpose of destroying the Reagan/Goldwater wing of the GOP. That's what Saxton, Schwarzenegger, Florida's Gov. Crist have been there for. While they are doing it they call themselves "Reagan conservatives." Repulsive!

- Julia Silverman, Oregonian: In Session Of "Me-too!", Debate Over Mortgage Loans Looms. Westlund's legislation would require creditors to verify that a borrower can repay a loan, and ban any financial incentive to steer borrowers toward higher-cost loans.
