- Smith To Pursue New Legislation to Expand Hate Crime Law. (Examiner)
- Sen. Smith Split from Own Party "Again." Voted in favor of energy legislation. The money is designed to replace funds lost by a reduction in timber sales on federal lands. Under law, 25 percent of those sales were to go to local communities. (Jeff Mapes, Oregonian) [Well, miracles do occur after all A journalist actually used the word "again" instead of pretending that Smith rarely broke from his party. It took long enough.
This bill is classic "first kill the community source of income" with more outrageous environmental whacko requirements, and then legislators act like knights in shining armor voting in thousands of taxpayers' money to bail out those whose businesses have been destroyed. This is a socialist tactic and Smith has gone along with it from the beginning. Sadly Congressman Walden is now going along with this instead of standing up to environmental whacko forces whose basic intention it is to destroy capitalism.]
- Animal-Rights Group Admits Vandalizing Scientist's Home. Novy is the second research scientist at OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center to have his property vandalized by the ALF this year. Last July, the group struck the home of Dr. Eliot Spindel, who uses monkeys to study ways to block fetal damage caused by pregnant smokers..."A lot of what comes out of this place alleviates human and animal suffering," said Michael Conn, the acting head of the primate center's animal services division.
