"A moderate by definition is one of three things; somebody who sits around and waits for a majority to form and then joins it, a conservative who is pro-choice, or a liberal."

- Jackson County Jury Indicts Parents of Medford Skateboarder. (Oregonian)
- Partisan Divide On Tax Vote. All of Oregon's Democratic House members voted Friday in favor of a sprawling tax bill [supposedly] designed to insulate the middle class from a new tax. - Josephine County Seeks Delay In Rehiring Mental Health Workers. Last week the state Employment Relations Board found the county violated labor law by privatizing mental health services and laying off workers in apparent retribution for union members going on strike in January 2006. (Corvallis Gazette-Times) [None dare privatize if socialist AFSCME has their way. None dare move in the direction of economic liberty and its resulting good economies. - NW Congressmen Voted to Override Bush Veto On Water Bill.
(HR 1495) "> Rep. Greg Walden: "Oregon and the Northwest depend greatly on the international trade that flows in and out of our ports, so overriding this veto ensures our river systems, navigational infrastructure, and ports can maintain the critical infrastructure that's vital to our economic well-being," Walden said. (Seattle PI) [Well, now. Doesn't that sound lofty and concerned. Bush doesn't care about such concerns as much as Walden? There is absolutely no way to cut back on the spending in this bill without "vital" needs being taken care of? The OR Conservative thinks Walden is caving to the environmental-whacko crowd as are ALL the legislators who voted for this bill. (Walden Needs to cease the photo-shoot mountain-climbing trips with Rep. Blumenauer).
This bill accepted some false premises regarding environmental concerns. But, it guaranteed each legislator the ability to claim, to liberal voters, that they'd supported environmental concerns in their own districts.
It is another bloated, over-spending piece of legislation. Walden, nor any of the other legislators who voted for this bill, is giving their true reasons for supporting the bill.
Bush was right to veto this bill for being way too spendy. He may also know it is critical, as well, to stop pandering to the far left environmental whackos who continue to make outrageous environmental claims, some of which are in this bill.
Environmental extremism has devastated Oregon's economy. Rather than go back and cut back on the spending, each legislator is determined to get their environmental-whacko kiss-up pork from this bill. Have the legislators read this huge bill in its entirety? It is huge. One can bet, however, that each legislator knows what is in the bill for their own district.]
- OR to Receive Fed Grant $$ to Create Database for Medicaid Patients. (Willamette Week) [This $5.5-M grant breaks down to $13,750 per Medicaid patient. -- (There is a good comment on this story that points out the downside of this grant at the bottom of the news story.} -- Presently it is against the federal law for a physician to pass on any patient records other than his own. He is barred from passing on medical info given to him by past physicians. Doctors have been sued for forwarding patient information from previous physicians. Even if a patient gives permission to do so they cannot do it. How, then can this data bank, open to all physicians, not be against the present law in protecting patient confidentially rights?]

She may be sincerely unaware how she sounds. Does she ever hear from YOU about this kind of reporting?]
``It's the symbolism,'' said Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski, who vigorously campaigned in support of the measure, even donating $200,000 from his own political action committee. ``If you can defeat it here in Oregon, you send a chilling message to the rest of the country.'' -- [Yup, as Rush Limbaugh has always pointed out about liberals, they are for "symbolism over substance." and that's just what this bill is really about. NO SUBSTANCE.]

- Ashland OKs Property Tax Increase for School Levy. 65% of voters favor the measure, with the turnout reaching 59.7% The levy this time will tax all property owners in the school district, including those outside the city. Until now, only residents of the city paid — and out-of-towners had to pay fees for youth activities. Because of its wider taxing net, the levy will drop from $1.38 per thousand dollars of assessed property value to $1.29. (John Darling, Mail Tribune)
