"A moderate by definition is one of three things; somebody who sits around and waits for a majority to form and then joins it, a conservative who is pro-choice, or a liberal."

- Saxton Says He's An Independent Republican. [In other words, all that conservative talk during the primary was a crock; he is pro-abortion, pro-civil unions (despite his new denials to the contrary), won't support tax cuts (refusing to support Don McIntire's tax cut initiative once obtaining Don's endorsement during the primary), will support more money for education even when it isn't needed, will not really be all that tough on illegal immigration, has his very own platform and is just using the OR GOP as a necessary evil-vehicle to run for office. He doesn't have the testosterone to run as an independent. At least Kulongoski is a proud liberal Democrat and doesn't hide it]. (Jeff Mapes, Oregonian)
